Prayagraj:- Policemen who attacked a lawyer in Allahabad should be arrested immediately and NSA should be imposed. Court should take cognizance of preventing a lawyer from going to court and tearing the band; contempt of court case should be filed against the policemen. The state government should immediately implement the Advocate Protection Act, otherwise the advocates will be forced to take to the streets, the flood of protest by lawyers will not be handled.
Agra:- Agra's advocates are very angry over
the case of police beating up an advocate of Allahabad High Court while he was
going to court. On Wednesday, a protest was held at Bharat Mata statue site on
Agra MG Road under the leadership of advocate Saroj Yadav. Slogans were raised
against the guilty police. They demanded action against other police officers
present on the spot, imposition of NSA and immediate implementation of Advocate
Protection Act. During the protest, advocate Saroj Yadav, a strong contender
for the post of member of Bar Council of UP, said that the attack on the lawyer
in Allahabad is an attack on the entire judicial system. Questioning the
system, he said that when there is a clear direction from the court not to stop
the advocates while going to the court, then why does the police stop the
lawyers on the way and how can it dare to beat up a respected advocate. He
demanded from the High Court to take cognizance of the case of contempt of
court against the inspector who tore the lawyer's band.
Advocate Saroj Yadav warned the policemen who misbehaved with the lawyers that if the few ill-minded policemen of the department do not change their working style, then the advocate community has never backed down from shattering their pride and will never back down in the future. Advocate Saroj Yadav demanded that if the culprits of the Allahabad incident are not arrested and sent to jail and the Advocate Protection Act is not implemented in the state soon, then the advocates of the entire state will be forced to go on a state-wide strike.
